Forensic Psychology Expert in Immigration Law
Dr. Lee is an experienced forensic evaluator in the area of immigration law. Using both her clinical and legal expertise, she is adept at identifying key issues in all areas of immigration law, including extreme and exceptional hardship, political asylum, spousal abuse, and citizenship waivers. Her bicultural identity is an asset in illustrating cultural sensitivities that are often involved in these cases.
Expert Criminal Competency and Mitigation
In criminal cases, Dr. Lee conducts forensic evaluations and provides expert opinions in the areas of competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, diminished capacity, impulsivity, insanity pleas, undue influence, malingering, juvenile competency, and mitigation reports. In addition to her doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Lee is certified in Neuropsychological Assessment and has extensive experience in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) cases, including mugging, threats to physical integrity, and traumatic events. Her reports are clear, concise, and well written in a manner that is easily understood by juries and judges.
Civil Matters -- Employment Law and Personal Injury Law
In civil matters, Dr. Lee has broad experience in diagnosing and evaluating individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, memory impairment, post traumatic stress, depression, generalized anxiety, panic disorders, learning disorders, and various types of dementia. Such individuals may have suffered from traumatic stress, head injuries, or sexual trauma. Dr. Lee is well versed in assessing different forms of discrimination in the workplace and related psychological distress. In these areas, she provides thorough insight and valuable testimony. She evaluates cases involving multiple aspects of employment law, including, but not limited to, age, pregnancy, pay, race, religious, and sexual orientation discrimination. She is able to clarify for the judge and the jury issues regarding complex areas that involve both the law and psychology.
Dr. Lee is a leading expert in the presentation of psychological scientific evidence. Her research is based on the Daubert standard in addressing the admissibility of psychological assessments as expert testimony. In 1993, the United States Supreme Court in Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals announced various factors that courts may use in analyzing the reliability and validity of scientific evidence. Since the Daubert decision, judges, academicians, and forensic psychologists have expressed confusion about these factors and their application. Dr. Lee is working on solutions to these problems, and making a valuable contribution in providing judges with general guidelines for evaluating psychological assessments.
Multicultural Perspectives -- English, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin)
Dr. Lee is proficient in Cantonese and Mandarin, and her clinical work is informed by cultural perspectives, a valuable asset in many immigration cases.
